Smile: For the Camera Comic Prequel – Horror Returns to Fashion with a Chilling Twist (2025)

The sinister grin is back, and it's hungrier than ever! Get ready to delve deeper into the chilling world of 'Smile' because a brand new prequel comic is about to unnerve you in ways you can't imagine.

Following the success of Parker Finn's two 'Smile' movies, the franchise is expanding with 'Smile: For the Camera,' a brand new comic book brought to you by IDW Dark. And guess what? We've got your first look right here!

Penned by the talented Hannah Rose May (known for 'Rogues' Gallery'), with stunning artwork by Miriana Puglia ('Red Sonja') and vibrant colors by Dearbhla Kelly, 'Smile: For the Camera #1' is slated for release on February 18th. Mark your calendars, horror fans!

The comic is set in 2005, taking us back before the terrifying events of both 'Smile' and 'Smile 2.' The storyline plunges us into the glamorous, yet cutthroat, world of international modeling during New York Fashion Month. A group of models are, quite literally, dying to smile for the cameras and achieve their dreams. But here's where it gets controversial... Paranoia slowly begins to grip them as the mysterious 'Smile' entity starts to stalk them. Is the entity feeding off their ambition and insecurities? Are they truly being haunted, or is it the pressures of the industry driving them mad?

Entertainment Weekly exclusively revealed the various captivating cover arts for 'Smile: For the Camera #1' this morning. They also granted us a sneak peek into the unsettling pages of this new horror comic book. According to creator Hannah Rose May, the fashion industry, with all its superficiality and intense competition, already has its own unique brand of monsters. "It’s no secret that the fashion industry has its own monsters. They’re just not supernatural," she told Entertainment Weekly. "So that’s what excited me the most. This allows us to deal with those monsters but with an entity being the main setting." And this is the part most people miss... By blending the very real horrors of the fashion world with a supernatural entity, the comic promises to be a terrifyingly insightful exploration of obsession, vanity, and the price of fame.

Think about it: the pressure to maintain a perfect image, the constant scrutiny, the relentless competition… could these factors make someone more susceptible to the influence of something sinister?

But that's not all! Another Paramount property, 'A Quiet Place,' is also joining the comic book universe with a spinoff from IDW Dark. 'A Quiet Place: Storm Warning #1' is scheduled to hit comic book shelves in March. So, if you're a fan of suspenseful, edge-of-your-seat storytelling, you'll have plenty to look forward to!

What do you think? Does the blending of real-world horrors with supernatural elements make the 'Smile' comic even more terrifying? Could the pressures of the fashion industry actually attract such a dark entity? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below! We'd love to hear your take on this chilling new chapter in the 'Smile' saga.
